A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM GINA

Hello …

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my work. I appreciate it can be a daunting task looking for the right counsellor and whether our work is short term or long term the relationship you have with your counsellor is instrumental for any change to take place.

I welcome you to get in touch so you have the opportunity to meet with me and we can discuss what brings you to counselling and how I may be able to help you.

I hope the following overview will give you a brief insight into my passion and commitment to my work and my desire to help you achieve the life you wish to have.

I regularly commit to various courses and reading to keep me up to date with my work. Since the Covid-19 pandemic I have committed to a 12 week course with the Academy for Online Counselling and Psychotherapy to complete their General Certificate to provide me with a more robust understanding of how to deliver my work safely and efficiently online.

WHY CHOOSE COUNSELLING?

Life can be challenging at times whether it is relationships, work or bereavement. Sometimes people tell me they don't seem to feel anything and others tell me they find their feelings such as anxiety, sadness and grief quite overwhelming and difficult to cope with. We are all unique and it is our own individual experience that is important.

By having someone to talk to in confidence who is non-biased and there just for you can feel like a great support and relief. As an experienced counsellor I can work with you to help you find a way forwards. Counselling can be a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand ourselves further. Sometimes it really helps to talk to someone who is non-judgemental and listens to you with empathy and an understanding ear.

WHERE DO THE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

I work in private practice from my ground floor office at my home near the centre of Fareham. However, due to the recently pandemic I have taken the bold decision to currently only work online using a video link via Zoom.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

If you have any questions or would like to book a session, then I welcome you to get in touch.

Either email me at gina@ginabate.com or

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Prior to my counselling course, I worked in Personal Development since 2004 mainly helping to coach and support clients to lose weight.  I felt honoured and humbled by my clients sharing of their unique life stories. It was a wonderful period of enlightenment for me at a transitional time of my own life and I was very fortunate to receive some excellent training.

For many years I have frequently attended and continue to attend CPD (continued professional development) courses and workshops. In addition to my degree and diploma in Humanistic Counselling, I draw from the invaluable experience I have gained to work with my clients. My qualifications and various experience through additional workshops and CPD days include:

  • My counsellor training has provided me with the opportunity to work with the Specialist Humanistic Therapy ... Expressive Creative Therapies, which I find remarkable to work with, especially in helping to explore a “stuckness”. The great thing about creative therapy is that you do not have to be good at drawing or art. There are many different therapeutic approaches to counselIing and psychotherapy. The modality I have been trained in is the Humanistic School and is described on the BACP website as:

  • Humanistic Therapy
This approach focuses on the individual as a whole. It encourages people to think about their feelings and take responsibility for their thoughts and actions. The emphasis is on self-development and achieving your highest potential rather than on problematic behaviour. Gestalt therapy, person-centred therapy, transactional analysis and transpersonal therapy are all humanistic approaches.

  • To find out more about other therapeutic approaches click on the link to go directly to the BACP information on the

  • I am insured and have an enhanced DBS certificate.

I currently see clients via Zoom working from my private practice in Fareham. I

have also worked for 3 years as part of a volunteer collegiate team of Counsellors providing support for students at the University of Portsmouth. In addition to this I have had experience in an NHS hospital environment working as a volunteer placement counsellor supporting staff.
